Profession+Sport:

Fashion Correspondent + Running

Brief Summary:
I run with make up, with red lipstick and they assume that I will be a bad runner. But then I like to show them that I am actually a good runner.

Occupation:
I’m a New York City-based correspondent for Swedish television. I cover fashion.

Sport:
I started running around three years ago. I started to run because I’m a workaholic and I felt I needed to do something for myself.

Fact:
I always run in dresses. I like to show everyone that you can run in a dress and be who you are. I run with makeup, with red lipstick and they assume that I will be a bad runner. But then I like to show them that I am actually a good runner. I’m not what you expect to show up at the New York City Marathon, but I ran my first one in 4 hours and 6 minutes and my second in 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Running with Gevrina from Nike

September 1st, 2010

Just got back from a run with the sweet Nike Field Reporter Gevrina Seferaj who came to visit New York. We talked about how to run in style and prepare for a marathon, subjects I can talk about forever. It felt great to be interviewed instead of being the interviewer. The segment will be up on Nike.com shortly.

What’s the Story Morning Glory

August 26th, 2010

I am finally back in New York City, but mentally stuck in another time zone. I’ve been waking up around five every morning since Monday when I got back. The city is so different right before the sun rices, so silent and empty. I’ve used the magic hour to get back in shape (where did my marathon shape go?). Yesterday I went for a run in the rain. I fell on the bridge, scraped my fingers and elbows and had to limp home. Today, it had better luck. I ran the same route and felt stronger and happier. Only two months left, but I’ve decided that I love running so much that even if I don’t break my marahon record (3:45) I will keep going.

North Brooklyn Runners

August 16th, 2010

One day when I ran over the bridge I spotted a really fast girl dressed in a t-shirt with a print that revealed that she belonged to North Brooklyn Runners. I have always preferred to run alone, but a club in my hood made me curious. I got hold of the fast girl, Aja, and asked her some questions about the dress code in her club.

Why did you start NBR?

I started NBR because I longed for a community within this neighborhood. And I wanted to meet the people I saw join me on the train at 6am on race mornings, those who I saw running the streets with race shirts on I recognized, and those who braved the elements (cold weather, bad traffic, tiny dogs, and speeding bikes) to get their workouts in.

What does NBR do for people in the hood?

I think NBR gives people the opportunity to develop themselves as a runner– however serious or not they are about running– as well as creating an opportunity to belong to something, to get involved, and to make new friends.

What does NBR do for you?

NBR has given me the push I needed to be active in the community. Since starting NBR I have created and joined in other ventures in North Brooklyn, rooting myself in this area that I have lived in for over 6 years.

Why is it important to belong to a club?

I’m not sure if it’s “important” so much as it is a unique experience. Some clubs are exclusive or expect certain, specific things from their members. NBR is free. NBR is supportive of everyone no matter their skill and experience. NBR is excited for people to be in the group and join in the activities, as often as possible.

How often do you run?

It varies based on where I’m at in my life at the time, but when I’m on top of things, I prefer to run 4 or 5 times a week.

Why do you run?

When I started running in high school it was initially a push from my dad who liked us all to be in some sort of sport. I worked really hard and did my best to keep up. Then I started finding a peace in it, a much needed source of stress relief. Through college and after, I continued to run for stress relief but also for fun and fitness. I think running is something that works well for my body to keep me healthy and fit and I’d like to continue to do so through the rest of my life.

Does NBR have a dress code?

Well, not officially. We have a few different shirts and singlets and accessories out there (including AA gym bags)– and as a generally accepted rule, we appreciate being stylish. Our team colors are black and white– universally flattering and matching with any other more colorful accessories you might want to pair them with. We also like the way tights make our butts look (guys and girls alike) and have a thing for short shorts (again, on guys and girls). Compression socks are also popular, as are signature statement pieces– headbands, bandanas, printed shorts, running skirts, etc. See more of our style choices on our photo pages.

How important do you think running outfits are?
I fall somewhere in the middle. I like to look put together, and as such my own running gear is mostly white and black with a few basic colors in there. I get excited about those neon high-visibility colors though, and two of my winter running clothes staples featured them to help motivate me to get out of the house on cold days. I get pretty excited about colorful sports bras though, and am looking forward to rocking NBR sports bras next summer (if not sooner). For me, I focus more on function, but pick quality pieces that will last me many miles to come!

Running down memory lane

August 10th, 2010

Goodbye sickness. I’m finally back to normal, now I just need to get back in shape. Yesterday I removed a wisdom tooth and went on a run in my dear old hometown Skara. I didn’t know where I was going, but places and memories pushed me in different directions and old stories entertained me along the run. My iPod is still filled with Smashing Pumpkins since I went to their concert in New York a few weeks back and it was perfect for the run. I remembered how I drove up to Stockholm with some friends in a borrowed Volvo to see them play and how we slept in the car on a parking lot. It’s fun to run down memory lane and I will do it again tonight.

Outfit: Blue running dress, my mums sun bleached sweather and red rain jacket. Too hot and too messy.

2190 running shoes

August 5th, 2010

I am still sick so need to satisfy my addiction by reading about running. I am lucky, because last night I got the latest issue of Runners Magazine and read about two lovely girls, Meghan Heneghan and Ellen Beatty who collected 2190 pairs of running shoes. The shoes where sent to Haiti with some help from Soles4Souls and I felt inspired from my bed.

Last night Obama interrupted my run

July 30th, 2010

Sorry for being absent. I’ve been sick, exhausted, disappointed of a friend and also so focused on writing a book that I haven’t been able to run.

I should know this by now, but my life is always better when I run so after a jog things changed. AM New York did a story on me and I received a beautiful running dress from my friend Tricia Bendik, but the biggest event this week was when Barack Obama interrupted my run. Wednesday night I crossed Williamsburg bridge and continued my jog on Manhattan and when I reached Houston Street I couldn’t cross. The whole street was blocked and a few minutes later Barack Obama passed by. Just a normal day in New York and the reason why it’s a amazing to run here.

On Iceland they know how to treat legs

July 21st, 2010

I’m already persuaded that Reykjavik might be one of the best running cities in the world (summer time), but after experiencing the blue lagoon, the island’s world famous spa, I would like to inform New York City, Portland and Rio that they have to work harder to keep their top positions. The Blue lagoon know how to treat runners and is perfect to visit after a long race. The spa even has a massage for tiered legs where they use the blue lagoon silica mud that cleanses and exfoliates. I wish I could stay forever, but New York City is calling me.

I love Reykjavik

July 18th, 2010

I’ve only been in Reykjavik for two days and I’m already in love with the city and the life quality that is offered here, but since I also judge cities based on it’s running qualities I was happy to discover that it has more than enough to offer. 24 hour sunlight that makes it possible to run anytime (in the summer), numerous outdoor swimming pools that are open late and mandatory after a run, a breathtaking landscape, fresh air that makes me appreciate breading again…I’ve only been on one simple 12 k run, but I didn’t have to run far to realize that Reykjavik deserves to be among the top 10 running cities in the world. I’m already thinking about running Reykjavik marathon and spend a summer here. Will persuade you with some pictures soon.

Simple style tip for runners

July 14th, 2010

I only have a few running dresses and since I run a lot I easily get bored with my limited style options. I try to make every run different by adding items to my dresses and today I wore this t-shirt designed by lovely Tara St. James. It looks complicated, but a t-shirt with cut off sleeves will have a similar effect.
